Building the partnerships that will help expand access to the Moon 🌙 Our colleague Atsushi Saiki, Business Fellow at ispace, took to the stage at LEAP 2026 in Riyadh this month to discuss how ispace can support the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ambitions for lunar exploration. As ispace continues to grow its presence across Japan, Europe, the United States and Saudi Arabia, these international relationships will be increasingly important in building the capabilities, services and ecosystem needed for the next era of lunar exploration. The ispace global team are joining an important international space cooperation event next week 🌙🇫🇷 Julien Lamamy, CEO of ispace-EUROPE and Charlotte Nassey, Senior Government Affairs and Policy Lead, will be in France for the International Space Summit on September 9–10. They'll be attending alongside Takeshi Hakamada, Founder & CEO of ispace, inc., who will be joining Panel #7.3: Lunar Exploration. International cooperation is already playing an important role in enabling the next generation of lunar missions, bringing together capabilities and expertise from across borders. We’re looking forward to sharing ispace’s perspective on the future of lunar exploration, and the role commercial companies can play in building a more connected and sustainable lunar ecosystem. 🌙 That’s a wrap for Space for Inspiration 2026. Day two brought another packed programme for ispace-EUROPE, with our team joining conversations about lunar resource prospecting, commercial lunar services and how Europe turns its ambitions for the Moon into operational missions. Sophia Casanova, Lunar Science Program Lead, joined the Lunar Resources Prospecting panel, chaired by Charlotte Nassey, Senior Government Affairs & Policy Lead, alongside James Carpenter, Head of the Lunar Science Office, ESA. The discussion explored how we move from understanding the potential of lunar resources to gathering the in-situ data needed to inform future exploration. Later, Charlotte joined the Lunar Commercial Service Providers panel, looking at the evolving role of commercial companies and new models of collaboration in delivering Europe’s lunar ambitions. For Charlotte, two themes stood out across the event: - Europe is increasingly moving from lunar resource research towards mission implementation, with a growing emphasis on in-situ measurements and building real operational capability. MAGPIE is one example of that transition, demonstrating the role smaller companies and a more diverse range of players can have in this new era of lunar exploration. - At the same time, public-private collaboration is emerging as an increasingly valuable model for European exploration missions. Bringing together agency objectives, commercial execution and scientific expertise can enable Europe to deliver increasingly ambitious missions efficiently, while building capabilities that can be carried forward into future exploration. We've been inspired by the collective ambition to advance European space exploration capability and invigorated by the engaging and thought provoking discussions. From university to the Moon 🌍🌙 This September, Julien Lamamy, CEO of ispace-Europe, will be joining King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals - KFUPM Research Day 2026 in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, to deliver a keynote exploring the journey from academic research to commercial lunar exploration. In “From University to the Moon: Commercial Space R&D,” Julien will share how research, entrepreneurship and international collaboration can turn ambitious ideas into real missions to the Moon, drawing on ispace’s journey and our work to build the technologies and capabilities needed for the next era of lunar exploration. A milestone for MAGPIE and for European lunar exploration 🌙 Yesterday at ESA’s Space for Inspiration conference in Copenhagen, ispace-EUROPE and the European Space Agency - ESA marked the MAGPIE mission agreement with an official signing ceremony led by Daniel Neuenschwander, ESA Director of Human and Robotic Exploration, and Julien Lamamy, CEO of ispace-EUROPE. Led by ispace-Europe as prime contractor to ESA, MAGPIE brings together scientific and engineering expertise from across Europe to investigate lunar volatiles and water ice in the Moon’s south polar region. The MAGPIE consortium includes: - Technical University of Munich, Germany - providing an instrumented drill Volatiles Sampler as a part of the Lunar Volatiles Scout - ESR Technology, United Kingdom - providing a Drill Translation Unit as a part of the Lunar Volatiles Scout   - The Open University, United Kingdom - providing an Ion Trap Mass Spectrometer Volatile Analyzer as a part of the Lunar Volatiles Scout   - RAL Space, United Kingdom - leading the joint assembly and testing activities of the Volatile Analyzer with the support of Open University    - CENSSS: Centre for Space Sensors and Systems at the Universitetet i Oslo (UiO) | University of Oslo, Norway - providing the Lunar RiMFAX Ground Penetrating Radar - Institute of Experimental and Applied Physics at the Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic - providing a neutron spectrometer suite of Neutron HardPix and a Radiation HardPix   Through MAGPIE, we are building the European operational capability, knowledge and experience needed to deliver increasingly ambitious missions on the lunar surface, while helping lay the foundations for future lunar exploration globally. Day one at European Space Agency - ESA’s Space for Inspiration 2026 in Copenhagen. We’ve had a great first day filled with conversations around lunar resources, surface mobility and the capabilities needed to support the next era of exploration. Julien Lamamy, CEO of ispace-Europe, joined the ESA BSGN | Business in Space Growth Network Industry Accelarator for Space Resources panel to discuss the role commercial companies can play in developing the lunar resources ecosystem and turning European expertise into operational capability. At the ispace-Europe stand, we’ve been showcasing our lunar mobility capabilities and catching up with partners from across the European and international space community. Could water on the Moon help unlock the next era of lunar exploration? 🌙 Our CEO Julien Lamamy and Sophia Casanova, Lunar Science Program Lead, spoke to Luxembourg’s Tageblatt Lëtzebuerg about the European Space Agency - ESA funded MAGPIE mission and one of the biggest questions we are setting out to investigate: the presence of water ice in the Moon’s polar regions. “The poles are currently the most exciting place on the Moon,” Julien explains. Confirming the presence of water there, he adds, would be a “Holy Grail” for lunar exploration. Led from Luxembourg by ispace-Europe, MAGPIE will send a rover to the Moon’s south polar region to advance our understanding of lunar volatiles, water ice and the environment that could support future exploration.
