On the occasion of her official visit to Italy, the President of the European Parliament Roberta METSOLA speaks at the Rimini Meeting on 26 August. This one-week interreligious conference, held annually since 1980, brings together politicians and economists from around the world. Organised by a Foundation supported by the Catholic Church, the event features Pope Leo XIV as its main guest.

A referendum on the resumption of European Union membership negotiations is held in Iceland on 29 August 2026. Iceland applied to join the EU in 2009, but negotiations have been suspended since 2013.
