Hi, my name is Don, and the blog site you are reading is a result of something that did not work. A few months ago my wife and I began attending Church at “Harvest Pointe”, located on south 37 and Southport road. They hold services in the “Pipers” restaurant on Sunday mornings starting at 10:00 am.
The Pastor of Harvest Pointe, Pastor Trent Lambert, had a vision for Life Groups that consist of Life Group Leaders opening their homes for fellowship, fun, and teaching, all in the name of our Lord. I was chosen to be one of those leaders, and as 3 groups started, 2 of them did well. Mine did not.
Our home was the farthest from the Church where most people lived. We have a Beechgrove group, and a south Greenwood group doing well, but my place kept floundering, and as a result I had to go back to the drawing board and ask the Lord what to do? At the time, the seeming failure was difficult, but what was a hard thing has turned into a wonderful blessing, because, as I prayed and went back to the drawing board, the idea, and the vision for “RMR > Real Men Read” was birthed! And what a blessing it has been.
If you click on the pictures in the sidebar, it will take you to an article I wrote about my Pastor, Pastor Trent. If you decide to visit Harvest Pointe, he and his wife Angie, and their 3 children will welcome you in. The best I can say about them is that they are “REAL”. They love God and love people. They are called to serve the body of Christ and lead God’s people. It can be hard to find “the real thing” these days, but they are, praise God!
The “RMR Outreach” is an extension of the vision of Pastor Trent and Harvest Pointe. I love to read, and when God gave me this idea to create a Life Group that centered on reading great Christian authors, and then coming together at a coffee shop to have Christian fellowship and discussion, I couldn’t believe how lucky and blessed I had just gotten.
I quickly drew up our RMR pamphlet and started talking to “men” about it. It was received with enthusiasm by 2 out of every 3 men I talked to! The Life Group in my home had been such a struggle, but now we had caught a current of God! It is such a blessing.
RMR is just rumbling on the launching pad at this time. We are so new, we are barely beginning to “Lift-off”! If you happen to live around the Indianapolis area and would like to jump in, we welcome you with open arms. We have two groups starting, and both very small at this time as I have only contacted a few people so far.
The first group is reading: “The Shack”, and because of having been told there are some questionable teachings in the book, we are doing a critique on it. Thousands of people claim to have been helped by that book, so is it bad, or good? Are there any serious issues of false teachings? I do not know, but our small group is reading and we are going to discuss that very question. So far, I have very much enjoyed what I have read.
Group #2 is reading: “The Harbinger” by Jonathan Cahn. I have been told the book will creep you out! I just bought it and can hardly wait to dive in.
If you would like to enter into our RMR fellowship, or just interested in knowing more, my email address is: truegrit9@yahoo.com. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. We expect this fellowship to grow in leaps and bounds! Come and be a part of the fun! You are invited! Currently we are focusing on locations west of Meridian (US 31). We can go east only if it is a large enough group to justify the travel. I’m a truck driver. I work a very full-time job. Eventually we will have leaders all over the city and there will be no limit how far this could go!
I will be doing regular postings of what we are doing, places we are meeting and books we are reading. This is partially for the purpose of getting our fellowship known, connected with other readers through this blog site, and inviting people in. How can they come if they do not know? Praise God for the Internet!
