Mats are scenery that were originally involved in the 2012 Christmas event. During the event the player could build a kennel for a stray dog at one of the four possible location's kennel hotspots. In addition to the kennel, the hotspot also has a mat, flea circus, dog bowl, and chew toy.

Each of these components can be independently customised in five different types: basic, red (Zamorak), blue (Saradomin), green (Guthix), and purple (Zaros). The customisations were acquired by opening active Gifts of Giving during the 2012 Christmas event. The mat customisations were unlocked from dog mats.

Players who completed the event can still find the kennel that they created in their chosen location. The kennel will contain the stray dog that the player chose to adopt during the event (either Oddie, Little 'Elper, Patch, or Sir Chen Rescoo).
