A keramos material cache at Everlight.

Material caches are scenery that each yield one single type of material used in Archaeology. Materials are used to restore damaged artefacts. Unlike excavation hotspots, material caches do not contain artefacts. Excavating material caches located at dig sites can also yield the soil of that dig site.

Caches are not instanced and can be interacted with by multiple players. Material caches deplete similarly to trees; when a cache is depleted, it's unavailable to all players for a short time. Material caches cannot deplete on the first two gathering actions. The higher level the cache, the longer it will take to respawn. The Refined perk and cadantine incense sticks have a chance to prevent a cache from depleting. The Scraps perk provides one extra material when a cache depletes.

The player's Archaeology level, as well as the focus stat of their mattock, will affect their chance of successfully gathering a material from both excavation hotspots and material caches. The Honed perk and the material manual buff also increase the rate at which materials are gathered.

However, unlike trees, the rate of yield does not depend on the level of the cache; a low-level cache and a high-level cache yield different materials at the same rate, given that everything else remains constant. With level 80+ Archaeology and an imcando mattock, material caches would yield 400+ materials per hour. This is in contrast with excavation hotspots, which yields less materials if the hotspot is of higher level.

Most materials have at least two distinct cache locations: one within a thematically-related dig site, and one outside of a dig site. Certain cache locations outside of dig sites require quests to access.
