Safes are scenery involved in Thieving, located throughout Gielinor. Safes can be opened through safecracking. Safes are characterised by their level requirement and number of locks; higher level safes provide more experience and loot, and safes with more locks require more time to crack.

Looting a single safe can be a daily challenge: Daily Thieving: Safes. Only safecracking safes that provide loot to a player's loot bag will complete the challenge. Safes found inside of Heists will not complete the challenge.

Though not required to open safes, talking to the safe-cracking trainer in the Thieves' Guild provides players with useful tools to crack safes and retrieve loot.

A safe can have between 3–6 locks which need cracking; this can be done by clicking once and leaving, or click the safe every time it gains a blue highlight (there is also a different sound effect when this happens so it is advised to have sound effects on).

It is highly recommended to have a stethoscope or master thief's stethoscope as this increases the rate at which the player cracks the safes.

Safecracking does not reward items as loot; instead, upon successful opening of a safe, a player's loot bag is filled by a specific amount (refer to safecracking rewards for a full description of loot bag mechanics). Although a loot bag is not required to open safes, the player will not receive any loot when cracking them without one.

Loot in bags can be fenced at the Thieves' Guild with Chief Thief Robin for Thieving experience, coins, and pilfer points to spend in Dodgy Derek's Dirty Deals. Uncommon looted special items can be handed in to Darren Lightfinger for 10 pilfer points or 37,500 coins each.

Special

[edit | edit source]

These items can be handed in to Darren Lightfinger in the Thieves' Guild for 10 pilfer points or 37,500 coins each. Players can choose the 'hand-in' option on him to hand in all of their items faster. Obtaining one of these items yields the following message: You found a really valuable item. Maybe the Thieves' Guild master would be interested in it?

Other

[edit | edit source]
  1. ^ If a safe is under level 81, your chance to get this item will be 1/64; otherwise it will be 1/128.
  2. ^ You will only roll for this item should you crack a safe that's level 81.
  3. ^ a b There's a 1% chance an elite clue scroll will be upgraded to a master clue scroll.
