Steam is a platform which RuneScape is available on since 14 October 2020. The Steam version of the game uses the same client as the non-Steam PC version, the NXT client, but features various integrations with Steam social features. Users with a Jagex account can still launch the game through Steam.

Differences to non-Steam PC version

[edit | edit source]

The Steam version of the game features these differences from the non-Steam version (available through the RuneScape website):

  • Integration with Steam achievements, trading cards, and badges which are earned through playing the game
  • Account linking/detection through Steam
  • All external links within the game will open within the Steam overlay web browser instead of the user's default browser.
  • An additional toggle in the third party subsection of gameplay settings to control whether the world you're playing on is visible to your Steam friends list.

Character progression carries over between all platforms that RuneScape is available on, as do in-game purchases such as bonds, and cosmetics bought in the Solomon's General Store. When purchasing in-game items through Steam, players can use their Steam wallet funds.

On the Steam platform, there are currently three sets of downloadable content available for purchase.

  • RuneScape: 200 RuneCoins
  • RuneScape: 420 RuneCoins
