I’m a sociology professor at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where I’ve been since 2001. I race bikes. After that, I can’t do much. Most of my research is on the contours and consequences of religion in the United States, and I have particular emphases on Christian fundamentalism, African American, and immigrant religion. I race for Team Mack, a great bunch of people! http://www.siu.edu/~socio/Sherkat.htm

I saw your post on Stlbiking regarding the tire clearance of your Moser M81…kind of a shame, as I was interested in picking one up (online source)…but definitely want to be able to run 25mm or better. Is this a confirmed problem? I ask because had a similar problem with a Merckx CF frame, but when I adjusted the drop-out pin-bolts downward I picked up more than enough clearance…but probably not the issue with the Moser? I’d be curious to know how you like the M81 overall…?

I mean, I do realize this is a stupid “observation” about adjusting the drop-out locator bolts…but I’m so amazed that a gem like a Moser M81 would not have gotten the clearance right…boggles the mind.

      Hey man,

Yeah, unfortunately that is the case. I can’t even run Conti 4-Seasons in 23! In fact, I took off the Moser front der clamp, and shaved down a dura ace with a file to make room for most brands of 23s. My problem is with a 55cm bike–the geometry shifts with size, and it may not be a problem with other sizes. If you’re bidding on line, you should ask for a picture of the clearance–and note the tire type. Just because a Michelin has plenty of room doesn’t mean you’ll be able to fit a Conti or a Hutchinson.
