About
Auth0 is an enterprise authentication and authorization platform acquired by Okta in 2021. It provides a complete identity management service — social login, enterprise SSO, multi-factor authentication, passwordless, and machine-to-machine authorization — delivered through pre-built Universal Login pages that are customisable and hosted by Auth0.
Rather than building auth from scratch, teams integrate Auth0 via SDKs for their frontend and backend framework. Auth0 handles the cryptographic plumbing (JWT signing, token refresh, PKCE, OIDC discovery), providing clean login/logout/callback flows with a few lines of SDK code. Rules and Actions (serverless JavaScript functions) run on the auth pipeline to enrich tokens, restrict access, or synchronise user data to external systems.
Auth0 supports 100+ social and enterprise identity providers (Google, GitHub, Microsoft, SAML, WS-Federation, LDAP) and includes anomaly detection, breached password detection, and brute-force protection by default. The free tier allows 7,500 active users; paid tiers scale to enterprise volumes with SLA guarantees and advanced compliance features.
