Where to begin with the awkward “About Me” page? To start, the name of my blog. A word my family loves to use to describe me is “verbose.” My middle name is Rose.
Synonym for Verbose = Wordy + Rose = The Wordy Rose
I was raised in a small farming community in the southern Willamette Valley. Like most writers, I fell in love with reading and writing at an early age. I scribbled stories for my family, wrote up plays for my sister and I to act out, and obsessively kept diaries. English had always been my favorite subject in school, but it wasn’t until a few years into my undergraduate degree that I decided to throw rational thinking to the wind, and major in a subject I was truly passionate about. One of the best decisions I’ve made, I ended up getting my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature.
I was fortunate enough to land a job as an editor for my university’s newspaper, propelling my writing career forward. In addition to journalism, I’ve had a number of creative pieces and reviews published in literary journals and magazines. In an attempt to fuel this passion of mine into a career, I’ve ended up working in human resources, where the bulk of what I do consists of business and technical writing. At least I’m putting my major to some good use! After writing employee handbooks, job descriptions, and marketing materials all day, the right side of my brain is screaming for some release!
I’m currently working on two novels: one a contemporary piece detailing the troubled relationship between a mother and daughter, the second a contemporary/historic fiction set in the South, the idea inspired by my experiences living there for a few years. I started blogging about a year ago as an outlet to get some of my shorter pieces out there. I am floored at how rewarding my blogging experience has been thus far. I have developed a phenomenal group of fellow bloggers and writers who I am so fortunate to have surrounding and supporting me on my writing journey!
I currently live in the glorious state of Oregon with my husband and our Jack Russell Terrier. I’m an avid backpacker and lover of the great outdoors, changing seasons, and rain, an avid reader (obviously), and a wine, coffee, and tea enthusiast. I spend every free minute enjoying the splendor of the Pacific Northwest and savoring the written word.
Happy reading!! 🙂

Congrats on the blog!
Hey Christie – Great writing! I want to bring this dog home to Kinga. She wants a dog very badly. She has even started a puppy fund! Talk soon. Emese

Do you have a Facebook page for your blog? I’d love to follow you there as well!
No, I’m no longer on any social sites. Left it all behind a year ago this month. Was so time consuming and all I do know is travel and blog. -:)
Always nice to “hear” from a fellow Oregonian…and so close, too! We are spitting differences apart via miles which means we have no different time zone to throw into the mix! So nice of you to drop by…..thank you! Raye from jotsfromasmallapt.

Thank you so much for your kind words!! 🙂
Hi Christina, thank you for the positive remarks. I’m thrilled you enjoy my poetry. I have 3 poems coming out in next month’s issue of The Wayfarer: A Journal of Contemplative Literature, if you’re interested I believe you’ll be able to view them for free on the magazine’s site. I enjoyed some of your poetry too, nice short clipped lines. I lived in the Salem area for a while as a kid, and still have family in Silverton and Keizer. Be well!
My husband and I lived in Keizer for about 6 years! I’ll check out the website for your poetry; congratulations on the publication of your work! 🙂
Hi Christina, thank you for the positive remarks, I’m thrilled you enjoyed my poetry. I read some of yours too, and enjoyed it. The short clipped sentences helped convey the feeling of the subject matter. Be well!

Hello, Christina. It strikes me that you’re a really happy person! You enjoy life to the full over there in Oregon … and why not? Your outdoor life sounds wonderful. I’m also impressed that you can manage to write two novels at the same time. I wish you every success with those. The contemporary / historic one intrigues me. Does that mean the story moves between times? I’ve read a few that do that. I also see you’ve read ‘All the Light We Cannot See’. I reviewed that on Goodreads a while ago. I loved that book!
I’ll look forward to reading more of your posts in future.
Awwee thanks so much!! I can’t get enough of the outdoors here. I’m ridiculously fortunate enough to live in a gorgeous state. Rain or shine, we squeeze in regular nightly walks at one of the various parks along the Willamette River and at least one good hike in every weekend. Our house is tucked into the hills overlooking Salem; all I have to do is look out one of my windows and I have stunning views of the farmland extending out towards the Cascades, which boast an even better view of Mount Jefferson. Always a view to inspire!! 🙂
I typically read anywhere from 2-5 books at any given time. I find that as my mood changes, so does my taste in what I read. This translates to my writing as well. I’ve had these two ideas ruminating for years, and plug away at either or both of them depending on the mood I’m in!
With regards to the contemporary/history novel… Yes. It bounces between two time periods; the first (the main character) being rooted in the present, and the second story line being in the past, around the turn of the century. Common threads are ancestry (the primary character in the historic story line is the g-g-grandmother of the main character in the contemporary half) and setting; both narratives are centered around a house (family home) tucked into the Louisiana bayou. 🙂
All the Light We Cannot See was amazing!! I really enjoyed that one as well.
And likewise!! Looking forward to reading more and many more great conversations to come! 🙂
Many thanks for explaining all that to me. I’m very nosy, so just ignore anything you don’t want to answer. 🙂
Not at all!! I have just started talking about my novels (I recently updated my “about” page and that was the first time I gave any details into what they’re about). I’m hoping to eventually build up the courage to start posting snippets to get advice and feedback. There are so many fellow writers and novelists in this amazing little community, why not view it as an online writer’s group?
It’s always good to get feedback on your writing. Snippets of your own would be excellent but there are always the flash fiction challenges which get lots of comments. You could always try some of those, if you don’t already do so. I didn’t notice any on your blog. They are very addictive, though!
I haven’t yet! I keep seeing them pop up, and enjoy reading the posts from the challenges that bloggers I follow participate in. I should definitely do one of those for my next challenge!
They’re also time consuming, I must add, You become part of a ‘community’ and are expected to read (and preferably comment, too) on other entries. It’s a nice thing to do and most are fun to read, but it takes a while! The Friday Fictioneers is the most popular one that I do, but there can be over 80 entries some weeks. You wouldn’t be expected to read them all, but you will probably do a fair number of them. It’s a great way to get to know other bloggers and increase your followers.
I’ll look into that one! Can you join at any time, or are there certain challenge dates (like the A-Z Challenge)?
Just join in whenever you like. And you don’t have to do it every week if you’re too busy or you just don’t like the prompt. Rochelle Wisoff Fields hosts the Friday Fictioneers. If you follow her blog you’ll get the prompt every Wednesday in your Reader. There are some excellent writers who do this challenge. I also do the Monday’s Finish the Story (Barbara Beacham’s) and Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers (Priceless Joy). The last one, PJ asked me to join as a mentor and give constructive criticism when needed. I didn’t have time for Monday’s this week but will do PJ’s tomorrow. There are others I do occasionally, too. You’ll be asleep if I rabbit any longer, so I’ll shut up now. Have a think about the FF. 🙂
I love your A-Z. Good luck with your novels – I was just sent the proofs for my travel book today. Getting close now!
Thank you so much!
How exciting!!! Congrats! 🙂
I’m really enjoying looking around your blog and I love your background and the picture at the top. I hope all is going well with your two novels. Thanks for visiting my blog and for the follow too!
Aww thanks so much! 🙂
Great to meet you! Enjoying your blog immensely 🙂 Alex 🙂
Thanks so much!!! 🙂
I’m enjoying your blog so much! And thanks for following mine…
Thank you so much! Follow along for more flash fiction and creative pieces soon to come!! I look forward to following your work as well! 😀
I adore the Pacific Northwest! My one and only trip (so far!) and I spent most of my time in Oregon traveling down the coast visiting lighthouses..Gorgeous place and I can’t wait to go back!
I love the lighthouses along the coast! Heceta Head has always been a favorite of mine, it’s situated above this lovely cove and boasts a “haunted” lighthouse keeper’s house. Such a idyllic place! Hoping to get a good beach day in over Memorial Day weekend! 😀
Yes! I loved that one! And such beautiful views! Breathtaking!
Hello from Türkiye… just wanted to say “thank you”, I appreciate your recent ‘follow’, knowing how many interesting and entertaining blogs there are out there.
Blogging since June 2013, my little corner of the world tries to offer an eclectic smattering of posts, from basic amateur photography, to sharing my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day-to-day happenings here on our fruit farm in southern Turkey. I also throw in a few of my observations on life and lighter-hearted stuff for good measure.
You are more than welcome to have a look around, stay a while and have a trawl through my collection. There are plenty of categories within the drop-down menus to help in said digging process.
Hope you have a great day…

Thank you for the summary of your bio! I have really been enjoying your writing and love hearing your stories. Look forward to reading much more! 🙂
Thanks Christina, and lovely to hear you enjoy the blog. Not had anywhere near enough time recently to write anything half decent – busy few months as always 😦
Oh I hear you, and it’s only going to get busier as summer is quickly closing in! My goal is to do at least one post per week so I don’t completely lose my groove!
Summer proper is my quiet time – just a matter of keeping trees, garden and veggies alive. It’s the race to do the big jobs before Ramadan that I’m battling 🙂
Nominated you to join me in a challenge http://jolenemottern.com/2015/06/02/love-hate-challenge/ — No obligation 🙂
Just to let you know that I’ve nominated you for The Creative Blogger Award. I would be delighted if you accept, but if you are unable to do so, that’s OK. The rules are on my post :

I’m not sure whether you’ve had this one, Christina. Just wanted to let you know that I find your posts ‘creative’. 🙂
Thank you so much!!! I’ve barely had time to squeeze out a few blog posts in the past week, work and projects at home have been keeping me crazy busy! I am so honored and would love to participate, it’s just a matter of finding some time in the near future! ❤
I know how you feel! It’s so hard to fit so many things in – and I’m retired! I’m glad you’ve accepted the award, but there’s no rush to do the post. As far as I know, there’s no expiry date! ❤
