Founders often talk about culture in terms of values workshops and a well-crafted Notion page on what they stand for. Useful exercises. But what really defines company culture is the standard founders set each and every day. In the second instalment of her series on talent, culture and hiring, Founders Factory's Head of Recruitment Raluca Ciobancan explains how company culture is the bar founders hold and what they tolerate when people miss it. That bar is set in the first conversation with hire number one, reinforced or quietly eroded every week after that. Raluca, draws on examples from the fastest-scaling AI-native companies building right now; Cursor, Harvey, ElevenLabs and from what she has observed across 50+ co-founding teams assembled inside the Founders Factory studio, including Meet Warren's Dima Tarasenko 🇺🇦. As the Blue Action Canada Residency takes place this week in Vancouver, we look at how the program’s local startups are changing port security, maritime sovereignty and the natural ecosystems that chart our coasts and seabeds. – 🔹 From ocean survey to subsurface security Deepwater Robotics builds long-range, low-cost autonomous underwater vehicles designed for ocean survey and port inspection; mapping the seabed, monitoring underwater infrastructure and identifying anomalies in environments that crewed operations cannot access cost-effectively or at scale. That same capability could detect unauthorised activity around undersea cables and pipelines. 🔹 From shore power to energy resilience Flux Lines' battery barges are designed to accelerate maritime electrification along shores and ports, reducing the emissions of vessels at berth and providing better energy flexibility. Electrified ports are also less dependent on fossil fuel supply chains and less acoustically exposed, providing a level of economic independence. 🔹 From wildlife protection to maritime awareness Whale Seeker's AI detection system is built to identify marine mammals and birds in real time, allowing shipping operators to adjust routing and speed before an encounter occurs. This also enables ships to better navigate coast lines and built up regions, increasing crew safety and routing efficiency. 🔹 From ocean restoration to strategic depth PhyCo Technologies's industrial-scale seaweed bioplastic reduces agriculture's reliance on petroleum-based plastics while actively restoring the marine ecosystems on which coastal communities, fisheries and naval operations all depend, improving stability for wildlife and maritime ecosystems alike. – The Blue Action Canada cohort with COAST (Centre for Ocean Applied Sustainable Technologies) , is supported through the programme's partner network spanning the Port of San Diego, ZEBOX, AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles, The Grand Bahama Port Authority and the Government of Barbados; showing how interconnected maritime and natural security are, and how protecting one ecosystem often supports another. A week spent on customer and government meetings across Canada's blue economy ecosystem culminates with Websummit Vancouver. 🚨 We are hiring four Founder & CEO roles across a new portfolio of healthcare ventures. Built in partnership with a leading global industrial healthcare partner, from our studios in London, Berlin and New York, these are rare opportunities for founder-operators who want to build category-defining health tech companies with capital, deep operational support and validated concepts from day one. – 🛠️ ClinicalOS: Clinical Infrastructure for Field Operations (London) The hardware to deploy clinical capacity in the field exists. What doesn't exist is the operating system that connects it. ClinicalOS is the open-standard software layer that makes a distributed clinical network behave like one system - deployable in under four hours, sensing every device and patient across every pod and theatre in a single operating layer. Ideal for a founder with experience in defence, health-tech, industrial IoT or humanitarian operations - comfortable navigating dual-use procurement and building for military and civilian buyers. 👉 Apply here: https://lnkd.in/eg56YHX8 – 🛠️ Hospital Discharge Readiness Engine (Berlin) Delayed hospital discharge costs OECD health systems an estimated $120 billion per year. In Germany alone it adds €2–3B in unnecessary costs. We're building a live discharge readiness dashboard that maps every task on the critical path, auto-drafts discharge letters, sends GP notifications and pushes pharmacy alerts - turning reactive discharge into planned execution. 👉 Apply here: https://lnkd.in/eg56YHX8 – 🛠️ Cognitive Decline Early Detection Platform (New York) Over 55 million people live with dementia. By the time most receive a diagnosis, years of irreversible decline have already occurred. We're building a continuous ambient home monitoring platform that detects the earliest behavioural and physiological signals of cognitive decline before the patient or family notices. 👉 Apply here: https://lnkd.in/eg56YHX8 – 🛠️ Clinical Coding Revenue Intelligence (Berlin) Every hospital in Europe loses millions to a manual, error-prone coding process. We're building an AI coding agent that reads clinical documentation, reasons from official coding guidelines at inference time, and enters codes into existing hospital software in seconds. Every code comes with an evidence chain and audit-ready DKR citation. The German G-DRG coding market is wide open. 👉 Apply here: https://lnkd.in/eg56YHX8 Raluca Ciobancan | Farah Kanji | Jack Howell | Claire Morris | Kelvin Degbotse | Nick le Fevre | Liam Nolan | Emma Wolfin | David Hickson | Damian Routley | henry lane fox | George Northcott | Olivia Brooks | Lee Bernasconi | Ed Harding #HealthTech #VentureBuilding #MedTech #DigitalHealth #Founders #Berlin #London #NewYork

Last week, eight founding teams - selected from 800+ applications - took to the stage at R[3]sidency Demo Day, closing out 16 weeks of building to pitch to 100+ international investors. The programme, created by Fabric Ventures, Coinbase, Base, Animoca Brands and Founders Factory, confirmed the central motivation of the accelerator; that the machine economy is here, and these are the startups building it: 🔹 Autonomous: a non-custodial AI-powered wallet turning plain language into executed positions across spot, perpetuals, prediction markets, tokenized equities and yield, all from one interface. 🔹 Kash: the first prediction market protocol embedded natively in social media feeds, letting anyone predict on real-time headlines by simply quote-posting. 🔹 Robin Markets: institutional-grade financial services for prediction markets, enabling users to earn DeFi-native yield on long-dated positions without leverage or surrendering exposure. 🔹 Poll: the betting layer for group chats. Create a bet, fund with Apple Pay, share with friends and automate settlement inside iMessage or Telegram. 🔹 Unified: collateral mobility infrastructure letting asset managers use crypto assets as collateral to access traditional financial markets in a cross-margin setup. 🔹 Web: where founders and their communities build, fund and earn from shared projects. When anyone can build a product, Web is how you bootstrap distribution. 🔹 Lexifina: a platform built bottom-up for core law firm operations, giving partners full visibility of the AI drafting process - prompts, citations, tool calls - to assess model decision-making and track how juniors are using AI. 🔹 Rosetta (from Parabol Labs): the infrastructure layer for institutional on-chain yield, already routing $300M+ across HyperEVM and Base, generating 9.01% APY over a 72-day benchmark window on a $100M cohort without leverage. The programme received support from the Department for Business and Trade, reflecting the UK's growing position at the intersection of Web3 and AI and the depth of the ecosystem forming around it. Congratulations to the full cohort. Will AI make insurance cheaper? Our fintech director Olly Betts put the question to two founders building at the intersection of AI and insurance. Tim Graham of Malcolm, part of our venture studio with Aviva, argues the operational costs of serving insurance should fall significantly as AI removes the distribution and administration overhead that currently sits between a policy and the person who needs it. Freddie Gjertsen of Prompted points out that your ability to find cheaper insurance will improve dramatically - and we already know from price comparison that when people can find cheaper, they buy cheaper. 🏠 Germany's need for housing and renovations is well documented. What gets less attention is the infrastructure need sitting beneath it, the missing technology layer that can enable the market to deliver at the speed and scale required. Two infrastructure opportunities stand out. The first is labour. Traditional recruitment infrastructure was built for CVs and desk-based hiring processes rather than mobile-first, non-desk workforce operating across 130+ recognised German craft qualifications. The second is materials. Sustainable construction materials will determine whether Germany meets its renovation and climate targets. It’s not that the technology isn't ready, it’s that the evidence infrastructure doesn't exist to make them bankable for lenders, insurers and procurement teams. Without that layer, innovative materials cannot compete on a like-for-like basis with conventional alternatives, regardless of their long-term cost advantage. That's what we're building in Berlin, in partnership with Vonovia: 🛠️ GreenCircle: build the evidence platform that makes sustainable construction materials bankable, unlocking procurement-ready data that turns pilots into adoption. €700k backing. 👉 https://lnkd.in/erVE2jf9 🛠️ MeisterMatch: build an AI-native recruiter for Germany's skilled trades shortage, with WhatsApp and voice onboarding, 48-hour shortlists, and instant demand from 355 live roles. €700k backing. 👉 https://lnkd.in/ecpFSGNP If you want to build platforms that compound for people and systems, with capital, deep operational support and a major corporate partner - we'd like to hear from you.
