Andreas Treichl is an Austrian bank manager. The son of the Bilderberg banker Heinrich Treichl, he attended the 2009 and 2022 Bilderberg meetings himself. He was a member of the Open Society Foundations European Advisory Board[1] and the Trilateral Commission. He was in favor of mandatory Covid jabs in 2021.

Background

He is the son of Heinrich Treichl. His uncle died as a British agent parachuted into Austria in 1945.

He attended the Schottengymnasium in Vienna (Upper Secondary School) and subsequently completed studies in economics at the University of Vienna.

Career

Treichl worked at several branches of David Rockefeller's Chase Manhattan Bank in a number of European and American cities from 1977 to 1983. From 1983 to 1986, he was a member of the senior management at Erste Bank der oesterreichischen Sparkassen AG. From 1986 to 1993, he was chairman of Chase Manhattan Bank Austria, and from 1993 to 1994, chairman of Crédit Lyonnais Austria.

In 1997, Treichl became Chairman of the Board of Erste Bank, and since 2008, he has been Chief Executive Officer of Erste Group Bank AG. The largest shareholder of Erste Group is ERSTE Stiftung of which Treichl has been chairman since the end of 2012. ERSTE Stiftung is one of the largest non-profit organisations in Europe. Its activities focus on the region of Central and Eastern Europe, which is Erste Group’s home market, and include programmes for social integration, culture and Europe. Moreover, Andreas Treichl initiated the project “Die Zweite Sparkasse” and played a key role in its implementation.

In addition to his career in banking, Treichl was finance director of the federal organization of the Austrian People's Party ÖVP) from 1991 to 1997.[2]

He was a member of [{George Soros]' European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR)[3] and Member of the International Advisory Council of GLOBSEC.[4]

On May 14, 2020, Treichl was elected to succeed Franz Fischler as President of the European Forum Alpbach from 2021.[5] In October 2024, Othmar Karas was elected as his successor.[6]

Covid

Speaking of the role of the banks during Covid, he said in April 2020 that "The daily business of Austrian banks since the outbreak of the coronavirus has been not only to support the various parts of the government package of measures, but also to support companies in dealing with the collateral damage of the COVID-19 crisis", and added: "As long as there is neither medicine nor vaccination against the coronavirus, injections by the governments are needed. The Austrian federal government has administered the right dose in a timely manner and in an enormous volume."[8]

In July 2021 Treichl spoke out unequivocally in favor of a general mandatory "vaccination" on the public television channel Ö1. "Yes," he answered without ifs and buts to the question; obviously, politics, the media and business together have not been able to convince the people who do not want to be vaccinated that they pose a danger to everyone, he opined.[9]

Awards

Treichl was named Manager of the Year by the Vienna University of Economics on 12 November 2007.

Other awards include:

  • 2001: Grand Decoration of Honour in Silver for Services to the Republic of Austria [10]
  • 2007: Grand Decoration of Honour in Gold for Services to the Republic of Austria [10]
  • 2007: Economic-Manager of the year [11]
  • 2012: Grand Order of the Tyrolean Eagle
