An IMCO Delegation visited Beijing and Shanghai to gain first-hand insight into China’s leadership in e-commerce, its customs and logistics systems, and their influence on consumer behaviour and market trends. The mission explored how digital trade innovations shape access and choice, assessed impacts on European consumers, and identified lessons to strengthen EU consumer rights and market fairness.

During the visit, the delegation engaged with Chinese regulators, commercial leaders, industry associations, and customs authorities. Key discussions focused on how digital trade and logistics innovations affect consumer access, the impact of Chinese market practices on European value chains, and regulatory approaches to consumer protection. The programme also examined strategies to foster competition, ensure diverse market options, and safeguard fairness for consumers. Insights gained will inform IMCO's work on enhancing EU consumer rights, improving market transparency, and learning from international best practices to support a more robust and competitive European Single Market.
