Exchange of views with the Cyprus Presidency of the Council

On Monday, 26 January 2026, the FEMM Committee had an exchange of views with Costas Fitiris, Cypriot Minister of Justice and Public Order, Cyprus Presidency of the Council.

This exchange of views focused on the priorities and initiatives planned by the Cyprus Presidency within the FEMM Committee's key areas of work. Particular attention was given to sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender-based violence, and the concept of consent as it relates to legal definitions of the crime of rape, including cases involving children of the age of consent. The discussion also addressed cyberviolence in all its forms, such as online harassment, disinformation, the non-consensual sharing of intimate images, cyberstalking, doxxing, the use of deepfakes, and other forms of technology-facilitated abuse, including those enabled or amplified by artificial intelligence. In addition, other FEMM Committee priorities were covered, such as economic empowerment, the gender pay and pension gap, women's participation in decision-making.
