Se permite a las comisiones organizar audiencias de expertos cuando lo consideren indispensable para la buena marcha de sus trabajos sobre un asunto determinado. Las audiencias también pueden celebrarlas dos o más comisiones de forma conjunta. La mayor parte de las comisiones organiza audiencias con regularidad, ya que estos actos les permiten oír a expertos y debatir sobre asuntos clave. The Committee on Security and Defence (SEDE) and Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) are organising a joint public hearing with the title: “Cyber-defence and cybersecurity”, which will take place on 29 January 2026 (09.00-10.30).
On 6 November, the SEDE Committee will hold, jointly with the FEMM Committee, a public hearing on the 25th Anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on "Women, Peace and Security" as part of the EP Gender Equality week. This hearing will be an opportunity to take stock on the progress and challenges in the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda.
On 5 November, the SEDE Committee will hold a public hearing on "EU strategic Defence and Security Partnerships", where experts will assess the current CSDP defence partnerships and put forward recommendations for the future, in line with the Strategic Compass and in view of strengthening the European Defence Union and relations with key defence partners. This hearing will be followed by the presentation of a draft report on "EU Strategic Defence and Security Partnerships".
On 25 June 2025, from 14:30 to 16:15, the FISC Subcommittee will host a joint public hearing with the SEDE Committee on "The European Defence Union: Tax Matters". The hearing will focus on the legislative framework governing VAT exemptions for defence-related activities carried out under the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP).

SEDE organises a public hearing on 'Hybrid War: protection of undersea cables in the Baltic Sea' on Tuesday, 18 February 2025 from 11.15 to 12.45hrs in Brussels (room SPINELLI 3G2). Subsea infrastructure, such as communication cables and energy pipelines, serves as the global nervous system, simultaneously transporting critical energy resources across continents and enabling communication across the world.
