On 14 July, the LIBE Committee held an exchange of views on the state of LGBTIQ+ rights in Europe and the importance of protecting minority rights in a healthy democracy. The discussion brought together representatives of the European Commission, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), the Permanent Representation of Spain, and civil society organisations.

On 19 January 2026, the Members of the Committee on Legal Affairs and the Members of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs held a joint exchange of views with the Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection Michael McGrath on the Justice programme for the period 2028-2034.

The third Disability Rights Week in the European Parliament took place from 1 to 5 December 2025. On the initiative of the EMPL Committee, all Committees, Policy Departments, Vice-Presidents, Quaestors and Directorates General are invited to organise hearings and other types of activities focusing on the rights of persons with disabilities in their respective policy and administrative areas.

EU Strategy to fight corruption and organised crime

The Commission presented to the Members the key elements considered in the forthcoming EU anti-corruption strategy, stressing that corruption is a serious threat to democracy, the rule of law, security, prosperity and public trust. It was described not only as a governance problem, but also as a security and geopolitical challenge, since it enables organised crime and can be exploited by hostile foreign actors to undermine democratic institutions.

The Commission presented to the LIBE committee a legislative package aimed at modernising the EU’s criminal justice architecture by strengthening cooperation between law enforcement, judicial and other relevant authorities. The package includes the revision of the Eurojust Regulation, in parallel with the Europol reform, in order to reinforce complementarity between the two agencies and ensure a seamless link between law-enforcement action and judicial follow-up.
