Meeting of the DEVE Committee 28 January
The Committee on Development met on 28 January to discuss the following files:
- Presentation of the draft opinion of the "EU strategy to face the new theories against democracy";
- Presentation of a study lead by Ms Katerina Stolyarenko on "Measuring the impact of EU interventions on decent and sustainable job creation in Sub-Saharan Africa";
- Exchange of views on the draft opinion on Interim report on the proposal for the multiannual financial framework for 2028-2034;
- Presentation of the Commission proposal on the Association of the Overseas Countries and Territories and with Greenland;
- Jointly with AFET Committee: Exchange of views with Commissioners Dubravka Šuica, Marta Kos, Jozef Síkela and Hadja Lahbib on the proposal on Global Europe instrument;
- Jointly with AFET Committee :Exchange of views with European Investment Bank on the EIB Global Strategic Orientation;
- Presentation of the Cyprus Presidency Priorities.

The DEVE Committee will hold an exchange of views with Mr Constantinos Kombos, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, on the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. The discussion will focus on the Presidency’s approach to advancing the EU’s development agenda, humanitarian priorities, and strengthening partnerships to address pressing global challenges.
Against the backdrop of rising tensions around Greenland, and in preparation for the EU's next long-term budget (MFF 2028-2034), EU Commissioner Jozef Síkela will present a Commission proposal to revise the legal foundation for the association with and scaling up support to the EU Member States' Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs), including Greenland. The presentation will take place on Wednesday, 28 January, 14:00-14:30 in room SPAAK 03C50 and be webstreamed live.
The European Commission will present its proposal for the "Global Europe" Regulation, guiding the EU's external action for the next Multi-Annual Financial Framework period 2028-2034. Four Commissioners (Jozef Síkela, International Partnerships, Marta Kos, Enlargement, Dubravka Šuica, Mediterranean and Hadja Lahbib, Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management) will discuss the proposal with MEPs, in a joint session of the AFET and DEVE Committees
