On 15 July, DEVE Members will discuss global food security in a new geopolitical context with Mr Carl Skau, Acting Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP). Global food security is currently under threat due to a combination of conflicts, climate change, economic instability and escalating geopolitical tensions. Disruptions in the Middle East and Ukraine have hampered supply chains, driving up food prices and exacerbating hunger in vulnerable regions dependent on imports.
In a debate on 15 July, Members will zoom in on the humanitarian impact of attacks on Ukraine's healthcare system, with Christopher Stokes, Emergency Coordinator for Ukraine at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid Operations department, and a representative of the Ukrainian government (tbc).
DEVE will hold an exchange of views with Mr Neale Richmond, T.D., Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora, on the priorities of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU in THE field of international partnerships, development cooperation and humanitarian aid. The discussion will focus on advancing the EU’s global engagement, supporting sustainable development, reinforcing humanitarian action and strengthening partnerships to address global challenges.
During the mission, Members will meet with senior representatives of the United Nations, international organisations, national parliaments, youth representatives, civil society organisations and other key stakeholders to exchange views on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
