The Policy Department for Economy and Growth is organising for the IMCO Committee a workshop on the Digital Ownership in the context of consumer rights.

On 24 June 2026, a workshop on Digital Ownership in the context of consumer rights took place from 14h30 to 16h00 during the IMCO committee meeting. The workshop explored how traditional concepts of ownership are challenged by digital products, software-based business models and service-based forms of access. Experts discussed whether consumers still effectively own what they buy in digital markets and examined tools to make consumer rights work in practice.

The workshop included two panels. The first panel, "Do Consumers Still Own What They Buy? - Ownership 2.0", focused on the changing nature of ownership in digital markets. The second panel, "Making Consumer Rights Work: Tools for Digital Markets", addressed consumer protection and enforcement challenges, with contributions from academic experts and the European Commission.
