At the IMCO meeting of 25 June 2025, Andreas Schwab (EPP), Head of the IMCO delegation to Buenos Aires (Argentina), reported back from the mission that took place on 26-30 May 2025. Mr Schwab highlighted that the IMCO Delegation’s visit underscored both the differences and shared interests between the EU and Argentina, particularly in the areas of business simplification, public administration reform, and the development of legislation concerning AI and online platforms.

The Delegation also gained valuable insights into consumer protection, civil society challenges, and perspectives on the EU-Mercosur Agreement, as well as opportunities to deepen cooperation between EU and Argentinian businesses.
During the mission, IMCO Members were briefed on the economic challenges Argentina has faced and the government's response through deregulation and structural reforms aimed at stimulating economic growth and reducing bureaucratic barriers for businesses. These reforms have had significant effects on both the private sector and civil society. The Delegation reaffirmed the EU's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Argentina, particularly in light of the potential implementation of the EU-Mercosur Agreement and Argentina's strategic resources and economic potential.
