Welcome words of the HOUS Chair, Irene Tinagli
As Chair of the European Parliament's Special Committee on the Housing Crisis in the European Union (HOUS), I am honoured to lead this Parliamentary initiative at a time when housing affordability and accessibility have become pressing challenges across the Union.
The housing crisis affects millions of Europeans, from young people struggling to rent their first apartment to families unable to find affordable homes in their communities. This is not just about buildings and markets - it's about the fundamental right of every European citizen to access decent and sustainable housing at reasonable costs.
Our Special Committee has been entrusted with a clear mandate: to thoroughly examine the root causes of the current housing crisis and propose concrete, actionable solutions at the European level. Over the next 12 months, we will engage with experts, stakeholders, and citizens to develop comprehensive policy recommendations that address both immediate challenges and long-term structural issues in the housing
