Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the President of the European Parliament and its political leaders modified Parliament's calendar of activities. The aim was to enable Parliament to exercise its functions and carry out its parliamentary work, while complying with the duty of care for its Members and staff and protecting public health.

While missions of Parliament's delegations were suspended, interparliamentary and other meetings of standing delegations and parliamentary assemblies were organised with the possibility of remote participation by Members, visiting speakers and staff.
