Interparliamentary meeting EU-Ecuador, Quito and Santa Cruz, 16 to 18 September 2025
An interparliamentary meeting (IPM) between the European Parliament and the National Assembly of Ecuador, the first held since 2018, took place on 17 September 2025.
At this inter-parliamentary meeting, the Meps (Chair Roberto Biedron, Anthony Smith and Juan Ignacio Zoido, INTA rapporteur) and Members of the National Assembly of Ecuador debated the following topics:
- Relations between the EU and Ecuador;- Security and fight against organised crime and drug trafficking;- Trade and economic relations;- Promotion and defence of human rights and the encouraging of respect for the Rule of Law;
In the margins of the inter-parliamentary meeting, the Meps met with the Executive, namely with John Reimberg, Minister of Interior, Ms Gabriela Sommerfeld, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Mr Roberto Quintero, Vice-Minister of Defence, as well as with representatives of the civil society and the businesses' sector.
