GAMBIA FEB 2019

BREEDING MALE, long tailed, vividly metallic green, with red an yellow patch on lower breast. Found in a wide range of habitats, normally in pairs, the female being very drab matt grey. A joy to see, move very fast, hard to keep in focus.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

L’Étourneau sansonnet est une espèce de passereaux de la famille des sturnidés, originaire de la plus grande partie de l'Eurasie, mais qui a été introduit dans tous les continents excepté l’Antarctique. Wikipédia

SUMMER VISITOR, to the region, observation tips, visit almost any large reedbed in southern England, and you should hear a sharp tche call, and if your very lucky they occasionally clamber up the reed stems to sing. .............

Am short of images to show at the moment, so am afraid the quality is coming down, must try harder!...............

INCESSANT TRILLING, and fluty song generally delivered in flight, a joy to see and hear. Invariably associated with grassy habitats, from meadows, moors and heaths to arable farmland. The species has declined alarmingly in many parts.

DELIGHTFUL bird of wayside habitats, as above the male is colourful and distinctive, outside breeding season, linnets form flocks, and are resident all year round. This was seen on dead bramble, at the Ancient highway, Sandwich bay, Kent, U.K.

Failed to get a more attractive background on this one!

Phew, I can sit at this lake for hours with ideas of works orient in my head. -North Wales - the Bont

CHARMING well-marked little finch, seen only in our area a few times during the winter, when alder trees are leafless, and the seed heads are up for grabs. Seeing then up high in the trees twittering to each other, is a real joy, but a real photography challenge, as they move so fast. and their heads are always buried in the seed heads! . When the seeds are gone so are the Siskins. The males have a black head like above, and absent in females, seen in the Alder wood at Stodmarsh, Kent, U.K. Not the best image, but the best I could do, and not sure if I will see them again this year.

Taiwan blue magpie (Urocissa caerulea)

The rain stopped and the sun broke through, lighting this spot in the forest in the Lake District... I was secretly hoping a bird might sit on the log for me, to complete the picture, but no such luck!

I like how one of the automated tags that flickr added is 'serene' because that's how it felt.

Thanks for looking :-)
