(1) "I can't argue that Finnick isn't one of the most stunning, sensuous people on the planet. But I can honestly say he's never been attractive to me. Maybe he's too pretty."
- She pretty much said the same about Gale... you know, before all the kissing.
(2) Cinna: "I think your days of pink lipstick and ribbons are behind you."
- Eh, it wasn't all that long anyway.

(1) "Our full stomachs make us more uncomfortable and breathless than we were on the morning's climb. I begin to regret those last dozen oysters."
- "Last dozen"? How many dozens were there?
(2) "My shaking hands slide the wire from the hilt, wind it around the arrow just above the feathers, and secure it with a knot picked up in training."
- Know your knots, people!

(1) "Twenty-four rolls from District 3 ... No one says it, but eight will divide up perfectly after the next death."
- Katniss may stink at science, but she's mastered death math.
(2) "I wish Haymitch would stop sending us that District 3 bread and get us some more of that District 4 stuff."
- Katniss Everdeen, bread critic.
- Katniss proving beggars can be choosers.

(1) "It wasn't real, I tell myself. The same way the muttation wolves last year weren't really the dead tributes. It's just a sadistic trick of the Gamemakers."
- Finally! After nearly a whole book we get confirmation about it.
(2) "If only one of us can be a parent, anyone can see it should be Peeta."
- Well, obviously. Peeta's the better person for nearly anything.

(1) "Wiress ... starts quietly singing some funny little song, about a mouse running up a clock. It must be for children, but it seems to make her happy."
- I guess "Hickory Dickory Dock" isn't very popular in District 12.
(2) "I go back to imagining killing the president."
- Seems like killing the president is Katniss' happy place. Well, whatever keeps her centered.

(1) "The only thing that distracts me from my current situation is fantasizing about killing President Snow. Not very pretty daydreams for a seventeen-year-old girl, I guess, but very satisfying."
- Katniss sounding like a serial killer. Well, if there was ever a time.
(2) Peeta: "Well, it must be monkey hour."
- Monkey Hour sounds fun! Wait... right, murder monkeys.

- Something tells me he wouldn't get away with this if he wasn't so handsome.

- Katniss, even in the midst of death and danger, remembers to stay sassy.

(2) "The monkeys explode into a shrieking mass of orange fur."

(1) "[Peeta] takes a cube of rodent meat, skewers it on the tip of a pointed stick, and lets it fall into the force field. There's a sharp sizzle and the stick flies back. The chunk of meat is blackened on the outside but well cooked inside. We give him a round of applause, then quickly stop, remembering where we are."

... I'm going to be this annoying person again, sorry xD I think what Katniss is describing is actually aesthetic attraction, meaning she thinks Finnick is really pretty and nice to look at. It's different from sexual attraction and romantic attraction.
I think it's pretty safe to say Cinna was right hahaha. I highly doubt she has time for any of that in the midst of the civil war to come.

My point is that she did the same with Gale in the previous book, but kept insisting there was nothing romantic. It's a compare/contrast situation. This time I believe her.
Layla wrote: "I think it's pretty safe to say Cinna was right hahaha. I highly doubt she has time for any of that in the midst of the civil war to come."She doesn't come off as the type to take too well to retirement anyway :)
I'm sorry. It might just be because of the glare of the light in his eyes or something, but Peeta's expression is making me die 😂😂

Thanks! It's always nice to feel special 😁👍
thank goodness Finnick didn't come as a love interest in the story. The love triangle was exhausting enough, don't know what we'd do if there was a love.. square?
Sakshi wrote: "thank goodness Finnick didn't come as a love interest in the story. The love triangle was exhausting enough, don't know what we'd do if there was a love.. square?"Yes, love squares are awkward. Unless it's two guys and two girls, like A Midsummer Night's Dream, then it can be fun.
Sooo, Katniss is in deep denial? Seems about right. The real question is, was Katniss ever into a pink-lipstick-and-ribbons phase? Because I never saw it.

Probably for the victory tour and the engagement. Cinna would be the one to know, since he's the one probably responsible for girling up her image.
But... why would Katniss be in denial ? And why not trust her when I don't think she has just once been an unreliable narrator ? Saying people (and especially girls) are lying or in denial when they tell you they don't have a crush is not healthy...

Turns out she did have romantic feelings toward Gale, since she worried about how her kissing Peeta would affect any potential relationship between them.

Well, they did play the whole romance cart quite a bit...
Alexandra Elend Wolf wrote: "Well, they did play the whole romance cart quite a bit..."Certainly, all the lipstick and ribbons were essential to that :)

Indeed, indeed. Though, that fire dress would scare the crap out of me to wear XD
Alexandra Elend Wolf wrote: "Indeed, indeed. Though, that fire dress would scare the crap out of me to wear XD"Compared to the fireballs in the first book, I'm sure the fake flames don't faze her at all :)

That... is an excellent point... though it could also go the other way around and trigger some sort of PTSD.
Alexandra Elend Wolf wrote: "That... is an excellent point... though it could also go the other way around and trigger some sort of PTSD."That's true too. Though, I think her PTSD manifests in other forms than aversion to flames.
