Apple Allegedly Delays Next-Generation iPhone Air Amid Weak Sales [Report]

Apple has allegedly shelved plans to release a second-generation iPhone Air next fall, a surprise shift in its product roadmap following weaker-than-expected sales of the first model. According to a new report from The Information, the company has notified suppliers that it is taking the next iPhone Air off its schedule, though it has stopped short of canceling the project entirely.

The move follows several reports of poor demand for the ultra-thin device since its launch in September. Foxconn has reportedly dismantled nearly all of its iPhone Air production lines and is expected to halt production entirely by the end of this month, with another supplier, Luxshare, having already stopped at the end of October. The news echoes earlier reports from both Nikkei Asia and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that Apple was slashing production of the device.

The now-delayed second-generation iPhone Air was said to be even lighter than the current model, with a larger battery capacity and a vapor chamber cooling system similar to the one found in the iPhone 17 Pro. A recent rumor also suggested Apple was planning to upgrade the device with a dual 48MP camera system.With the iPhone Air 2 now off the schedule, Apple's fall 2026 launch is expected to feature the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and the company's first foldable iPhone.The standard iPhone 18 and a new iPhone 18e are expected to follow in the spring of 2027, as part of a revised launch schedule. One of The Information's sources noted it is still possible the next iPhone Air could be released alongside those models in spring 2027.


The weak reception for the iPhone Air has been blamed on its high price and hardware compromises. Early reviews praised its stunning design but flagged the single-lens camera and smaller battery as significant trade-offs for a device that starts at $999.
