Prof. Dr. Mohamed Samer is a Laureate of the Cairo University Scientific Excellence Award (2019). He is the recipient of The Privilege Medal of First Class (2017), issued by the Egyptian President. He is also a Laureate of the State Encouragement Award (2016) conferred by the Egyptian Government. He is listed in the Stanford/Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists List (2023, 2024, and 2025). He was granted his PhD by the University of Hohenheim in Germany. He has led 19 research projects and established five laboratories. With 160 publications to his credit, he is an active member of 13 scientific societies. He also serves as a peer reviewer for 30 high-impact journals, having reviewed 130 papers, and as a reviewer for eight funding agencies, where he has evaluated 40 research project proposals.

This book explores various aspects of bioplastics and the circular bioeconomy, covering topics such as different types of bioplastics, biomass valorization for bioplastics production, biomass pretreatment, bioplastics biorefineries, and production processes. Specifically, it investigates the concept of transforming waste into wealth with bio-based plastics, the role of bioplastics as substitutes for petroplastics, biodegradable polymers, bioplastics derived from food by-products, and the challenges of bioplastics in aquatic environments.
