Sergio Rui Silva

Sérgio Rui Silva was born on 27 June 1980 in Portugal. He received his Licenciatura (5-year degree, with honors) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the School of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), with a specialization in Telecommunications, Electronics and Computer Science, completing his studies in July 2003. He subsequently pursued doctoral studies in Electronics and Computer Science at the same institution. Throughout his academic career, Sérgio was involved in a wide range of research projects, including the characterization of semiconductor lasers, an interferometric synthetic aperture sonar system supported by satellite, the development of a vision system for vibration analysis, an integrated navigation system for small aircrafts (SINAL), ClusteRadio — a distributed software radio architecture — and a time reference system using an OEM GPS receiver and RT-Linux. He has accumulated extensive professional experience working with international interdisciplinary teams across leading organizations such as CERN, INESC, Synopsys, and the MIPI Alliance. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field, he was awarded the MIPI Alliance Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023. Since that same year, he has chaired the MIPI M-PHY Working Group, where he provides technical leadership across the electrical, protocol, and testing dimensions of the specification.
