This chapter reviews cyberbullying research from across the world. Not only it is important to be familiar with the range of impact and risks that commonly fall upon cyber victims, but much can be learned when reviewing a myriad of research focused on the bullies themselves. In addition to that, it provides some theoretical discussion for other researchers who wish to study cyberbullying through a specific lens that may help standardize the research and better understand what is truly happening behind the screens. This chapter also explores how those involved with cyber aggressive behaviors choose to cope, whether positively or negatively. In depth, this chapter explores cyberbullies in hopes of creating more awareness of signs for parents or educators that may be able to prevent perpetration or targeting.

Workplace bullying (WPB) in higher education is a persistent and often underestimated organizational issue that extends beyond interpersonal conflict. This chapter reframes WPB as a systemic failure rooted in institutional culture and leadership, affecting both individual well-being and organizational effectiveness. Building on previous research, this chapter provides new analyses that illuminate the differential impact of WPB across professional roles and institutional hierarchies. Drawing on a mixed-methods study involving 308 higher education faculty and staff, the research assessed WPB exposure and its impacts on job satisfaction. Quantitative findings reveal a strong negative correlation between bullying and job satisfaction (r = − 0.52, p < 0.001), while qualitative data expose the emotional toll of sustained bullying, ranging from distress and isolation to sabotage and turnover intentions. Participants’ narratives emphasize how bullying erodes collaboration, trust in leadership, and overall workplace culture. The findings underscore that WPB thrives where leadership lacks accountability and organizational policies remain reactive. This chapter advocates for a shift from individual-focused interventions to systemic, preventive strategies. Recommendations include empowering Human Resources (HR) as proactive change agents, institutionalizing leadership accountability, and fostering a restorative organizational culture. By situating WPB within broader structural and cultural contexts, the chapter offers evidence-based strategies for higher education leaders, HR professionals, and policymakers committed to cultivating ethical, healthy academic workplaces.
