Dr. Gustavo Morari do Nascimento is an associate professor at the Federal University of ABC. He has an extensive background across many fields related to the characterization of advanced materials. Since earning his doctoral degree from the University of São Paulo (USP), followed by a postdoc at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), he has been working on carbon allotropes, conducting polymers, and conducting polymer-clay nanocomposites. Nowadays, his research focuses on the molecular characterization of chemically modified carbon nanostructured materials, molecular magnets, and organic chalcogenide compounds using FT-Raman, resonance Raman, SERS (surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy), resonance Raman imaging, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray absorption techniques at the National Synchrotron Light Laboratory. He has also dedicated himself to studying the history and philosophy of chemistry, with a focus on institutional, instrumental, and evolutionary concepts.

The synthesis and study of montmorillonite clays and their derivate materials are one of the widest fields of research in materials science and technology. Characterization followed by the application of many derived clay materials with different polymers and organic and biological molecules is one of the major features in clay science and technology. The main goal of this work is to contribute to the rationalization of some important results obtained in the clay science and technology area. The overall idea of the book is to provide the reader with a comprehensive and up-to-date, evidence-based overview of the current literature in clay science and technology.
