Ricardo López-Ruiz, MS, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and Systems Engineering, Faculty of Science, University of Zaragoza, Spain. He is also an associate researcher in Complex Systems at the University of Zaragoza's School of Mathematics. Previously, he worked as a lecturer at the University of Navarra, the Public University of Navarra, and UNED of Calatayud. He completed his postdoc with Prof. Yves Pomeau at the École Normale Supérieure of Paris and with Prof. Gabriel Mindlin at the University of Buenos Aires. His areas of interest include statistical complexity and nonlinear models, chaotic maps and applications, multi-agent systems, econophysics, big data, and artificial intelligence techniques.

Nonlinear systems present a set of challenges, primarily due to their complex and unpredictable behavior. Unlike linear systems, where inputs and outputs maintain a proportional relationship, nonlinear systems can exhibit phenomena such as chaos, bifurcations, and multistability. This makes predicting system behavior challenging, as minor changes in inputs or initial conditions can yield vastly different outcomes. Another significant challenge is controlling and stabilizing nonlinear systems, especially in practical applications such as robotics, energy systems, and climate modeling. Over three sections, this book aims to delve into this type of system from theoretical approaches to practical applications. A wide range of topics, including the analysis of stability and bifurcations, the control of dynamics, and the prediction of behavior in different biological, physical, and theoretical situations, is covered.
