Today at the CFS 53 Plenary Session in Rome, the ILO Child Labour Platform joined FAO, International Labour Organization, UNICEF and International Trade Centre ➡️ to spotlight practical, area‑based approaches to eliminate child labour in agriculture and build more sustainable global supply chains. In 2024, 138 million children were in child labour, 61% in agriculture. Tackling the drivers—poverty, food insecurity and climate impacts—is essential not only to protect children’s rights, but to secure resilient, inclusive agrifood systems. From the CLEAR Supply Chains project in Uganda and Honduras, we shared: ➡️ Evidence on root causes and what works on the ground ➡️ Lessons from the coffee supply chain ➡️ Guidance for aligning interventions with emerging due diligence frameworks, including the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) Our discussion reinforced CFS RAI principles—especially decent work and youth empowerment—showing how integrated, area‑based solutions bring together livelihoods, climate resilience, education and social protection with responsible business conduct to advance SDG 8.7. 📶 Let’s scale partnerships that end child labour and strengthen responsible, sustainable agrifood systems.

Child labour in fisheries and aquaculture persists exposing children to hazardous tasks, long hours and exploitation, often at the expense of schooling and health. The new ILO–FAO policy guidance sets out practical, joined‑up measures for governments, industry, employers’ and workers’ organisations, communities and partners to prevent and eliminate child labour while supporting sustainable, resilient food systems. As the global partnership driving SDG 8.7, Alliance 8.7 mobilises stakeholders to turn guidance into action—strengthening prevention, protection and access to education, and promoting decent work for adults so children can enjoy their childhoods. Asia-Pacific speaks with one voice for a child-labour-free future! On 16 October 2025, we opened the Asia-Pacific Regional Consultation ahead of the 6th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour — uniting governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations, civil society, and youth to drive change. From the inspiring opening by Kaori Nakamura-Osaka, ILO Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, to the message from Wafa Asri, Secretary-General of Morocco’s Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills — the call was clear: every child deserves to learn, not labour. Over 100 tripartite participants joined forces to shape Asia-Pacific’s call to Morocco 2026 ✅ enforce laws that protect children ✅ ensure education for all ✅ support vulnerable families ✅ strengthen regional solidarity This consultation was more than a meeting — it was a regional pledge for action to end child labour and secure a fairer future for every child. 🔗bit.ly/4n7st4q #ChildLabour #EndChildLabour #DecentWork
