Greetings from students in our Occupational Mentor Certification Program (OMCP) at High Desert State Prison. 👋 The OMCP program is an innovative project providing students with the education and training needed to become Alcohol and Other Drug Counselors and creating a pathway for students to obtain employment when they return home. When leaders prioritize education, training, and resources in our justice system, we increase public safety and reduce recidivism. We appreciate @cacorrections for your partnership

Rebuilding a life after incarceration requires willingness to change and access to housing, stability, education, and employment opportunity. Recent graduate, Andy, spent his time with us making the most out of the education and workforce development services we have to offer. We're rooting for him as he takes on his goals to complete his undergraduate education and open a community center in his neighborhood. Your support helps provide the services and support people need to build a stable future. Consider becoming a monthly donor at the link in our bio.

Education is a powerful tool that empowers our students to dream big. 🎓 🏫 Students from our La Entrada campus honed their writing skills in the USC Prison Education Project writing program, where they channeled their lived experiences to write stories in an anthology titled "The Sun Loves Me More," which the program published. Thank you to Professors Nik De Dominic and Kate Levin for guiding out students through this process and unforgettable experience.

"I want to take him to school, sit on the couch and watch movies together. I miss the little things.” For Mother's Day, we want to honor the moms who are working daily to heal and rebuild their lives. Ausha, a formerly incarcerated student at La Entrada, Amity’s women’s campus, lost custody of her son when he was only three years old after years of trauma, abuse and addiction led her down a dark path. Now her son is seven, and Ausha is sober and turning her life around. Because of the guidance she received at La Entrada, Ausha is completing her education, preparing for a career helping others overcome addiction, and is scheduled to move into her first apartment with her son this summer. “My time with Amity has been one of the greatest blessings in my life.” But many mothers are still waiting for that same chance. This Mother’s Day, you can help bring families one step closer together. Please make a gift today in honor of women working hard to get their lives back on track.

This #CorrectionalOfficersWeek we're sending our gratitude to the officers working alongside us at Amity Foundation to transform the prison system. Over the years we've built strong relationships with many correctional officers who are showing up with intention and willingness to re-envision the relationship between officers and our students. Our MCRP (Male Community Reentry Program) in partnership with CDCR is a model for fostering collaboration between the the justice system and community organizations to reduce recidivism and increase public safety. Corrections Counselor Natibidad Simental is one of many corrections professionals we want to thank for being a dedicated partner in re-imagining these relationships. He shows up day after day encouraging and supporting our students on their re-entry journey.

May is #MentalHealthAwareness, which is intricately tied to almost everything we do at Amity Foundation. Substance use disorder treatment, mental wellness, and therapeutic services are vital to healing and successful re-entry. We ensure our students get the behavioral health, housing, education, and employment services they need to thrive. At the policy level, we partner with Local, State, and Federal agencies and elected officials to expand access to care for the justice-impacted communities we serve because re-entry is vital to public safety. Your support allows us to continue building healthier futures for the communities we serve. Happy #MentalHealthMonth!
