  • As the end of the school year approaches, we’re celebrating some of our marquee accomplishments! Back in September the Special Olympics North America awarded four Boston Public Schools a National Banner recognition: Trotter Elementary School in Roxbury; Warren-Prescott K-8 School in Charlestown; Brighton High School; and Mario Umana Academy in East Boston. Our schools were among just 17 in Massachusetts and 217 nationwide to achieve National Banner status for the 2024-25 school year. Watch highlights from each school’s Unified Champion School banner unveiling held alongside Special Olympics Massachusetts. The unified-champion designation recognized each school for achieving national standards of excellence in the areas of inclusion, advocacy, and respect in 2024-25. • Boston Public Schools celebrated the 19th Annual BPS Wellness Summit Thursday! Staff, students, and community partners came together to learn and consider how school communities can improve student health and well-being. The program included a performance by the English High School Band, a presentation from Empowering Teens Through Health Youth Advisory Board students, guest speaker Craig Andrade BUSPH Department of Environmental Health group activities, and the Excellence in School Wellness Awards. Five schools received Certificates of Recognition, and 11 schools received Wellness Awards. We all can take a stand for collective wellbeing and create a safe and healthy BPS and City of Boston. Huge thank-you to the BPS Office of Health & Wellness for coordinating the event!

  • We hit the dance floor last week for Spring Fling! A joyful celebration and one of the best events of the school year, the Boston Public Schools Office of Specialized Services Spring Fling brought together our post-graduate students and their friends from across the City of Boston last week. Students wore their best formal attire as they danced the day away, mingled in between bites, and memorialized the occasion at the photo booth – all to cap off another fantastic school year! We wish all our students a celebratory end of the year!

  • The Boston Public Schools takes care of our own, and that means we show up for each other. Longtime BPS school leader Sarita Thomas has battled cancer for years, and her journey highlights a critical gap in the research that shapes cancer care. The American Cancer Society's VOICES of Black Women study seeks 100K Black women to participate in a long-term study to improve prevention, diagnosis, and health-care outcomes. Watch VOICES of Black Women Ambassadors, Sarita and Mass General Brigham Gynecologist Dr. Liza Swedarsky MD, explain why it’s important for the BPS community to join the battle. This is more than a message. It’s a movement. Learn more: https://ow.ly/fLPy50YWeak
