Engineering ingenuity and solutions, and realistic honest answers.
About us
In 1979, Collins Engineers, Inc. opened its doors in Chicago providing engineering services in structural and transportation analysis and design, and underwater engineering. It was in the field of underwater engineering that Collins pioneered the use of professional engineers as diving inspectors in the evaluation of underwater structures. Today, Collins is an ENR Top 500 Design Firm and provides design and analysis services coupled with field experience to the transportation, marine, and construction industries. Collins’ insistence on obtaining firsthand knowledge means that our engineers are on the project from start to finish, from the initial on-site inspection to the design of repairs, from performing the construction administration to following up with construction inspection. Such practical experience provides a unique and customized approach in the development of solutions, and provides continuity for our clients. Not only does Collins incorporate this valuable knowledge into its engineering services, Collins applies it to the advancement of the industry as a whole. Collins regularly authors manuals in conjunction with participating in the implementation of industry protocol, nationally and internationally. Continually on the leading edge of standards and methodology, Collins provides engineering ingenuity and solutions to complex problems, and realistic, honest answers.

Collins is pleased to announce the launch of our Project Coordination Office (PCO) webpage, along with a new white paper detailing our work supporting the Chicago Department of Transportation’s Division of Infrastructure Management. Established in 2012, the PCO has played a central role in advancing coordinated right‑of‑way infrastructure management across the City of Chicago. The paper highlights how the PCO enhances right‑of‑way planning through proactive coordination, data‑driven tools such as dotMaps, and strong collaboration with public agencies and private utilities. It also includes case studies from the 2024 Democratic National Convention, the Chicago Marathon, and neighborhood‑level events that demonstrate the value of effective right-of-way management.
