Celebrating GME research across our regions. This spring, our Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs hosted their annual Research Days to highlight and celebrate the outstanding research, quality improvement, and scholarly work led by residents and fellows across Corewell Health. Topics ranged from improving skin cancer screening and patient education in the East and examining caffeine and sports exercise in the South to advancing medical clearance before inpatient psychiatric admission in the West. Together, all presentations reflect a shared commitment to innovation, academic excellence, and better patient care. Congratulations to all who participated!

Congratulations to Lindsey Kelley for earning the Certified Pharmacy Executive Leader (CPEL) credential through the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, a distinction that recognizes advanced executive leadership in pharmacy across large, complex health systems. Lindsey’s achievement reflects the caliber of leadership driving pharmacy forward at Corewell Health and the role our teams play in advancing patient-centered care.

Last year, Alexandra crossed the commencement stage holding her twin boys while earning her degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. This year, she returned the favor by hooding her husband Jacob as he graduated, while he proudly carried their twins across the stage. The back-to-back videos have captured hearts across social media, and we’re especially proud because Alexandra is a PGY1 resident at Corewell Health West Diagnostic Radiology in Grand Rapids. We can’t wait to see what’s ahead for this growing family of physicians!

From staffing aid stations and cheering runners on, to having 60+ physicians, nurses, physical therapists and sports rehabilitation professionals in the main medical tent, our team was grateful to support you and be part of a day that brought us Together in Community. Corewell Health's CenteringPregnancy program is helping expecting families navigate pregnancy together, pairing routine prenatal care with group sessions where parents can connect, ask questions, and prepare for labor and infant care alongside others at the same stage. Research supports the model, showing links to lower preterm birth rates, increased breastfeeding rates, and greater confidence heading into delivery. Iris Boettcher, MD, CMD, FPALTC, has been awarded Medical Director of the Year by Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association (PALTmed). Iris, who serves as medical director at Corewell Health West Rehab and Nursing Centers, says she considers it “one of the greatest honors in our profession.” “I was always in awe of those people who received it,” she says, “and I am so appreciative of the Foundation as well as the person who nominated me and thought that I was worthy of this honor.” Congratulations to Dr. Boettcher on this award! What inspires someone to become a nurse? For Nathan Schloegl, it was the team who showed up for his family during their most vulnerable moment. When his son Luca was admitted to the NICU at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, the nurses' compassion and steadiness didn't just help his baby. It redirected his entire career path. He left his job in private security, went back to school, and today works as a nurse in the very same NICU where Luca was once a patient. This #InternationalNursesDay, we recognize the lasting impact nurses have on patients and their families - and the people they inspire to join their ranks.
