To put that into perspective—if you lined every box up end to end, they’d stretch about 290 miles… that’s like traveling from Detroit to Chicago! 🚗💨 Girls built essential skills in entrepreneurship, money management, and leadership—all while funding their next adventures, service projects, and dreams. 🌎💚 Earth Day (4/22) is a reminder that the future of our planet starts with today’s youth. At Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, we’re investing in that future through our Mobile STEAM Lab (MSL) — bringing hands-on science, technology, engineering, art, and math experiences directly to girls in our communities. Access to STEAM education is critical. It helps young people understand the world around them, tackle real environmental challenges, and imagine innovative solutions for a more sustainable future. Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan is pleased to welcome Katora Cole as Chief Philanthropy Officer. Katora brings more than 30 years of nonprofit leadership to GSSEM, having served as Chief Development Officer with some of the region’s leading nonprofits including Michigan Science Center, Orchards Children’s Services and The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW). GSSEM is excited for the future of philanthropic engagement with Katora at the helm of our development efforts. Her expertise will help further Girl Scouting in southeastern Michigan, and fulfill our mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. At Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan we believe leadership doesn’t happen in just one lane, it shows up on stages, in boardrooms… and yes, even on the football field. Earlier today, more than 200 of our Girl Scouts stepped onto the field with the Detroit Prowl women’s football team for a hands-on clinic that challenged expectations and built confidence in real time. What I love most about this experience isn’t just the drills or the plays, it’s what it represents. * It’s girls seeing women lead in spaces where they haven’t always been visible. * It’s girls testing their strength, their voice, and their courage in new ways. * It’s the reminder that leadership is as much about trying something new as it is about mastering what you already know. Special shout out to Detroit Prowl owner and #GSSEM Board Member, Denyse Vitale for creating “Touchdowns and Tagalongs!” These are the type of moments that shape how girls see themselves and what they believe is possible.
