🔵 An IGTP project led by Federico Fondelli, researcher in the Immunopathology Research Group, has been selected in the 2026 CaixaImpulse Health Innovation call by the Fundación ”la Caixa” and will receive €49,000. Current treatments for multiple sclerosis often rely on broader modulation or suppression of the immune response. Fondelli’s project explores a more targeted approach: retraining the immune response to restore tolerance to myelin. Using tolerogenic dendritic cells derived from the patient, the team generates regulatory T cells (Tregs) that specifically recognise myelin antigens. The project also incorporates tools to identify patients who may be more likely to respond to this strategy and to help predict the success of the cell production process. ➕ In addition, two other projects involving IGTP researchers have received funding through Fundación ”la Caixa” programmes in 2026: - Laura Fernández López (CEEISCAT-IGTP) leads a project on barriers to healthcare access among migrants, supported through the Connecta call. - Andreu Colom-Cadena (CEEISCAT-IGTP) participates in a collaborative study on hand hygiene in neonatal intensive care units, coordinated by IDIAPJGol (Institut d'Investigació en Atenció Primària de Salut Jordi Gol) and funded through the HealthCare Research Call. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/d6NnbhpE #FundlaCaixaResearch #FundlaCaixaResearchers #CaixaImpulse #MultipleSclerosis #CellTherapy #Immunology

🎙️ When does emotional distress become a reason to seek professional help? In the latest episode of the podcast Un bri de ciència, psychiatrist Jorge Cuevas Esteban explores mental health beyond diagnoses: how to recognise when distress is interfering with everyday life, the persistence of stigma, and how psychiatric care is evolving towards more personalised and less restrictive models. Cuevas is head of the Adult Psychiatry Department at Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol, researcher of the Psychiatry and Mental Health Group at Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP), and associate professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He discusses what we mean by mental health, the signs that may indicate it is time to seek professional help, and the role of daily habits and our social environment. The conversation also looks at projects being carried out to improve psychiatric care. Un bri de ciència continues to bring science and health closer to the public, combining healthcare and research perspectives to explore topics that have a direct impact on people's lives. 🎧 Listen to the episode (in Catalan): https://lnkd.in/dQq2Y945 📰 Read more: https://lnkd.in/e9X5Ps9t #Outreach #Podcast #MentalHealth #WorldMentalHealthDay

How do the exposures we experience throughout our working lives interact with other factors that shape our health? GCAT - Genomes for life is participating in OMega-X (European Occupational Exposome Mega Cohort Consortium), a European resource bringing together 24 cohorts from eight countries and multinational studies, with data from more than 20 million participants. A new article in the International Journal of Epidemiology (Oxford University Press), co-authored by GCAT principal investigator de Cid Rafael, presents the consortium and its potential for occupational health and exposome research. GCAT contributes the perspective of a general population cohort from Catalonia, making it possible to study employment histories alongside environmental and lifestyle factors, clinical information and, in selected subgroups, molecular and multi-omics data. 💬 "OMega-X gives us the opportunity to connect occupational exposures with other dimensions of people’s lives and study their combined impact on health." - Natàlia Blay, GCAT researcher. This European collaboration will help explore how occupational exposures interact with other determinants of health across the life course. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/d-Teu4Ag #OccupationalHealth #Exposome #PublicHealth #Epidemiology
