The town of Pound, Virginia received funding from Monuments Across Appalachian Virginia (MAAV) to create a labor-oriented monument downtown. MAAV is an initiative housed by Virginia Tech and funded by The Mellon Foundation.

With $500K Mellon grant, Massachusetts Institute of Technology ethnomusicologist develops an expanded music theory curriculum. The project aims to produce an open access music theory curriculum, new audio-visual textbook, and conference gathering music theory scholars.

The Gordon Parks Foundation, named for the photographer who documented American life for decades for Life magazine, will honor Mellon Foundation President Elizabeth Alexander, among other leaders this spring. With a $1 million grant from Mellon, Arte Yunque brings art into a protected national rainforest—the largest in the U.S. Forest Service system.

With Mellon support, OPERA America awards $220K in grants for the development of new American operas and music theater works. Grants were awarded to eight opera companies, including American Lyric Theater, Austin Opera, Chicago Fringe Opera, HERE Arts Center, Minnesota Opera, Opera Montana, Opera Saratoga, and Pacific Opera Victoria.

With Mellon support, SUNY Oneonta digitizes an archive of New York folklife and oral histories. Awarded a $50,000 grant by the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) with funding from the Mellon Foundation, the Milne Library and Cooperstown Graduate Program will open the archives to the public upon completion.
