After more than four decades of leadership, Harry Doyle is retiring from his role as Senior Partner at MODUS. Harry will continue with MODUS in a part-time capacity, providing high-level design oversight, mentorship, and guidance to the engineering team. His knowledge, values, and approach to problem-solving will remain an integral part of the firm. This moment marks the closing of an extraordinary chapter. MODUS is deeply grateful for Harry’s leadership, friendship, and enduring influence—and proud to carry forward the principles he helped define. Read more about Harry's legacy below.
About us
Since 1963, MODUS (formerly Gilmor + Doyle) has engineered more than 11,000 buildings worth hundreds of millions of dollars. The key to our success and longevity is a disciplined approach to collaboration with clients. There are no off-the-shelf designs at MODUS. No templates or pre-packaged approaches. Instead, we begin each facility engineering project by helping clients clearly articulate the goals of their structure or system. Then we ensure that everything we do moves the project toward achieving those goals. Whether you want LEED-certified efficiency and sustainability, low price per square foot, high human comfort, extreme durability or any of a hundred other attributes, MODUS has the mechanical and electrical expertise to engineer these capable facilities.

As the year comes to a close, it’s worth pausing—not just to look at what was completed, but to consider how the work moved. Across our teams and offices, 2025 reinforced something we’ve long believed: strong outcomes are shaped early. Projects moved best when expectations were clear, roles were defined, and teams were aligned enough to have honest conversations before issues became expensive. Much of our work this year will quietly shape communities for years to come—supporting learning, health, recreation, and connection. Behind each project was a steady commitment to coordination, follow-through, and getting the details right, even when conditions were changing. Change remains a constant in our industry. Technologies evolve. Needs shift. Markets fluctuate. This year reinforced the value of experience paired with adaptability—knowing when to rely on what works and when to rethink assumptions. Just as important, 2025 was another reminder that good engineering is inseparable from good working relationships. Trust, clarity, and mutual respect remain essential to delivering complex work well, and we’re grateful for the clients and partners who share that mindset. As we look ahead, our focus remains the same: thoughtful engineering, disciplined coordination, and early decisions that set projects up for long-term success. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the work this year. We look forward to what’s ahead.

We kicked off Cy-Hawk weekend with a little friendly rivalry of our own! 🌪️🐤 Our engineers came together for a team lunch to celebrate the big game between the Cyclones and the Hawkeyes. Between delicious food, Cy-Hawk trivia, and even a paper football challenge! No matter which team you’re cheering for, it was a great reminder of how much fun we have when we come together. Here’s to a fantastic Cy-Hawk weekend!
