Conflict avoidance shows up in the most subtle ways, and those “harmless” phrases we all use… they can actually keep real issues swept under the rug. In a recent Parade feature, our own Golee Abrishami, PhD, Octave’s VP of Clinical Care, explains how phrases like “It’s fine, let’s drop it” or “I don’t want drama” may feel peaceful in the moment, but over time, unaddressed tension accumulates and erodes connection. As Golee says: "When someone consistently dismisses tension, they may temporarily experience a sense of calm or control, but the unspoken issues don’t disappear—the issues often remain or even accumulate over time.” Meaningful connection doesn’t come from skirting conflict, it comes from facing it with curiosity and care.
