The best parts of the internet are full of people who’ve built thriving creative businesses from the most unexpected things: A guy cooking 2,000-year-old Roman recipes. Someone filming themself restoring centuries-old paintings. A podcast that goes deep on medieval daily life. It wasn’t obvious that any of this would work, but it all did. I'm heading to SXSW London on June 4 for two conversations on this topic. The first is with British comedian and podcaster Fin Taylor, who has turned chaos, comedy, and internet culture into a thriving business entirely on his own terms. We’ll discuss how the most unexpected media is quietly powering the most loyal fan communities. I'll also be hosting a fireside conversation on what it means to build a better internet for creativity, especially now that AI is reshaping who makes things, who owns things, and who gets paid for them. Over $2B flows from fans to creators on Patreon every year, indicating that people are willing to pay for the media that they love. At Patreon, our job is to make that easier, not harder, by giving creators more control over their businesses and enabling them to build deeper connections with their communities. The same question underlies both of these conversations: what does it take to build a sustainable creative business on the internet in 2026? SXSW London, June 4. Hope to see you there. https://lnkd.in/dwdZvfnt
