About us
Founded at the end of the Second World War, the United Nations is an international organization made up of 193 Member States committed to maintaining international peace and security. Every day the UN works to tackle global challenges and deliver results for those most in need. Giving life-saving support to populations hit by humanitarian crises, helping build and keep the peace in conflict-ridden areas, supporting governments and their citizens to advance development and fight poverty, and promoting human rights worldwide are the core pillars of the work of the United Nations and the mandates it receives from its Member States. Refugee rights are human rights. They are not negotiable. Even as funding drops and needs grow, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency continues to provide shelter, protection and hope to people forced to flee due to war, violence, persecution or disaster. At a time of record displacement and shrinking support, we can all show solidarity and take action to support refugee families. https://www.unhcr.org./what-we-do

Across the globe, people continue to be harassed, attacked and even killed simply for their beliefs. “Such acts are an assault on human rights and human dignity. They must end now,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Saturday's International Day for Victims of Violence Based on Religion or Belief. He urged governments to bring perpetrators to justice and counter discrimination and hate speech; religious leaders to speak out against violence; and tech companies to ensure their platforms protect users from stigma and scapegoating. “Whenever one group is persecuted, no group is safe. Today, we honour the victims of violence and commit to building societies where all faiths can live and worship in peace.” https://lnkd.in/eJTEKBM

Acts of terrorism, driven by hateful ideologies, continue to injure, harm and kill thousands of innocent people each year. Friday is the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism — a time to stand in solidarity with victims and survivors, amplify their voices and raise awareness of its impact on individuals and communities. Marking the day, UN Secretary-General António Guterres stressed the importance of upholding victims’ rights, delivering justice and standing by them at every step of their healing journey. “Instead of letting terror divide us, we can and must stay united,” he said. “And build a future free from violence and fear.” https://lnkd.in/dtHW3ph

Women's leadership is advancing — but parity remains decades away. While there has been some progress in women’s representation in decision-making positions, advancement has been sluggish over the last decade. Women’s full and equitable participation and leadership are essential for global progress. https://lnkd.in/eQE2DBeb

Humanitarian workers and assets must be protected. Everywhere. At all times. Millions worldwide depend on them for life-saving assistance and support. Yet, humanitarians continue to be targeted, threatened and harmed by warring sides. On Wednesday’s World Humanitarian Day, join United Nations OCHA in calling for an end to these attacks and the impunity that enables them. https://lnkd.in/dYq7hqX
