About us
Founded at the end of the Second World War, the United Nations is an international organization made up of 193 Member States committed to maintaining international peace and security. Every day the UN works to tackle global challenges and deliver results for those most in need. Giving life-saving support to populations hit by humanitarian crises, helping build and keep the peace in conflict-ridden areas, supporting governments and their citizens to advance development and fight poverty, and promoting human rights worldwide are the core pillars of the work of the United Nations and the mandates it receives from its Member States. Menopause is a natural stage in women’s lives, marking the end of their reproductive years. Most women experience menopause between the ages of 45 and 55, due to the natural decline in ovarian follicular function and estrogen levels. On Saturday’s World Menopause Day, the World Health Organization highlights the importance of understanding menopause and its impact on women’s health. https://lnkd.in/dkj9GUfX

A new UN report reveals a powerful link between poverty and the climate crisis. Nearly 80% of the world’s poor —887 million people— are directly exposed to extreme heat, flooding, drought or air pollution, underlining the urgent need for global action. The report offers fresh evidence on how the climate crisis is reshaping global poverty. More from UNDP: https://lnkd.in/dBNTvbDc

For 700 million people worldwide, surviving on less than $2.15 a day isn’t just difficult to imagine — it’s daily reality. Beyond the struggle to meet basic needs, families living in poverty often face stigma and unfair treatment. “On this International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, let’s reject stigma and discrimination,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres. “Let’s stand with people living in poverty, and act with solidarity to end poverty for good.” Living in dignity and free from poverty is a fundamental human right.

The ceasefire in Gaza has allowed UNDP to step-up their efforts to clear away huge piles of rubble, which have made many roadways nearly impassible. Their work will facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to desperate communities, while also helping people to move around more safely. Our colleagues are also supporting hospitals and other essential services to clear debris to help restore access to care.
