Britain’s business R&D engine is losing momentum. Between 2021 and 2023, private investment fell by 6.3% in real terms — around £3.4 billion less spent on business-led research and development. To understand why and how to reverse the trend, the National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB) convened a Taskforce led by Sir John A Manzoni, Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell and Sir Jon Symonds. The Taskforce’s conclusions set out a route to systemic change: focus on fewer, higher-impact priorities; simplify business access to support; and reform institutions for delivery — so the UK can turn ambition into competitive advantage. Together, these changes can turn ambition into competitive advantage — and restore the UK’s position as a global leader in business R&D. 🚀 𝗧𝘂𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 €𝟯𝟬𝟴 (𝗨𝗦𝗗 𝟯𝟲𝟭) 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗖 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴    We’re excited to share that we have successfully closed a Series C #financing round, led by Venrock Healthcare Capital Partners with participation from additional new investors Wellington Management, Ascenta Capital and existing investors.     The proceeds will be used to accelerate the clinical development of our lead antibody-drug conjugate (#ADC) candidate, TUB-040, into earlier lines of therapy and additional tumor indications. Further, the capital will advance our differentiated pipeline, including the clinical-stage ADC candidate TUB-030 as well as several preclinical programs, and expand our proprietary platform technologies to bring ADCs into novel applications.    We are looking forward to working with Lorence Kim and Patrick Heron, who are joining our Advisory Board, strengthening our team as we enter our next growth phase to drive ADC innovation. 📢 𝗢𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘁 #𝗘𝗦𝗠𝗢𝟮𝟱: 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗨𝗕-𝟬𝟰𝟬 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 First clinical data from our lead candidate TUB-040 will be presented in a mini oral session by our Principal Investigator, Antonio González Martín, at the upcoming ESMO - European Society for Medical Oncology Congress being held October 17-21, 2025, in Berlin.  The presentation will provide interim data from the dose escalation part of the platinum-resistant ovarian cancer (#PROC) cohort in the first-in-human study with TUB-040. TUB-040 is a next-gen NaPi2b-targeting #ADC using our proprietary Tubutecan platform – enabling high stability, excellent pharmacokinetics, and a high drug-to-antibody ratio (DAR8). University group TenU has convened a working group to look at ways that industry could be more involved in assessing and identifying which academic research receives the limited government funding available in the UK for proof of concept. Examples of industry-university partnerships including Apollo Therapeutics, Matcelerate Zero and Evotec are potential models that could be scaled nationally. I'm not usually one to toot my own horn on social media... but I'll be damned if we didn't earn the bragging rights for this: Our Health & Life Science Venture Day 2025 is over and I couldn't be happier! It felt fantastic seeing the months of work that Julius, Fabio and myself have put into this event finally come to life. We got to see many familiar faces and, even better, even more new faces. It's a pleasure to watch the northern life science startup community grow and flourish, and I'm very proud to be part of this ecosystem and help it evolve in the years to come. For now, though, congratulations to this year's winner, Aortex! A well deserved first place among tough competitors (who each delivered compelling pitches as well!).
