When America promised to build a space base in outback Australia in the middle of the 1960s, few suspected it would put Australia in the nuclear cross-hairs in decades to come. That space base, just 18 kilometers south of Alice Springs, would become known as Pine Gap - the most secretive intelligence facility in the country. After 16 years living next door, Alice Springs journalist Alex Barwick wanted to find out what exactly was going on in her backyard. Expanse: Spies in the Outback shoots straight to the heart of questions about government, transparency, accountability, and what the public should have a right to know. In looking at the story of Pine Gap through a local lens with a comprehensive telling of the facility from its inception, the series highlights the shifting nature of the base and the personal stories of the people whose lives were shaped by it. The sound design transports the listener into each era of the story, subtly evoking the nostalgic sounds from the 60s, through the 70s and 80s, to a more contemporary audio aesthetic for today.

Dateline A dark and stormy night. Location: The Hollow Hotel Assignment Crime detective duo Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Caine interview Romeo Gideon, the dark king of television magic. Murder ensues. Concept The Haunted House on Hollow Hill was pitched to author of the 'Skulduggery Pleasant' books series, Derek Landy, to create a cool, suspenseful, yet funny story featuring the crime detective duo Skulduggery Pleasant (Kevin Hely) and Valkyrie Caine (Eve Macklin), with some rather terrifying characters woven in and out of the narrative played by Colin Mace, Joe Eyre, Kit Griffiths and Sam Newton. The cast were recorded altogether in the same studio to emulate more of a radio drama. HarperCollins Producer Tanya Hougham imagined the story to take shape as three separate formats – a podcast, an audiobook and a book. All with the same story but introducing new side storylines and characters in each format to entice all audiences from listener to reader on a 'Who Done It!' adventure.
