N7N-6YWCrocoite PbCr6+O4

Multiple photos available

Butte Mine, Black Butte, Gillespie, Maricopa County, Arizona, USA

Fragmented crystal of crocoite on a specimen I purchased at the 2013 Tucson City Center Show, ex-Huestis Collection. FOV is about 3 mm in length. Child photos show the back side of the specimen with the breakage surface, and a scan of the catalog card accompanying the specimen. It shows an EDS analysis and indicates that it was collected in August of 1984, possibly by Dave Shannon.

Photo and specimen: Steve Stuart.

Black Butte prospect, Yavapai County, Arizona, USA

Field of View: 3.5 mm

Crocoite (orange) with Phoenicochroite (red) from the Black Butte claim. 3.5mm field of view. Confirmed by Raman spectroscopy, July 2013. This specimen was labeled "Lead Minerals" in the collection of Arthur Flagg, who originally reported the Crocoite from this locality in 1948. It is the only crystalline Crocoite I've seen from Arizona. Also in association on the specimen is vanadinite, mimetite, and descloizite.

Potter-Cramer Mine, Vulture Mining District, Maricopa County, Arizona, USA

Dimensions: 2.2 cm x 2.0 cm x 1.8 cm

Bright red-orange massive Phoenicochroite has formed as a thin veinlet, 5.0 X 8.0 mm across, on matrix. The lighter orange massive mineral is non-crystallized Crocoite, and the massive yellow mineral is Massicot.
