Small and unsuccessful manganese mine high on the hill of Mynydd Nodol.
First recorded output was in 1867 by the Gt. Northern Manganese Mine Company Ltd. A further 50 tons of ore was raised but not sold in 1867, with the the mine then ceasing work till 1885-86 when it was again briefly operated. A further working in 1906 raised 2 tons of ore. Whilst not worked during the period 1887-91, it was owned by one C Herbert Stokes under the name of Manganese Royal.
Probably no more than a couple of hundred tons of ore were raised in total.
Hollandite and other manganese oxides form botryoidal crusts and velvety acicular, metallic dark grey crystals lining cavities within botryoidal manganese ore have also been shown to be hollandite (T.F. Cotterell, National Museum of Wales, unpublished data).
