It is a part of the Fedorova–Pana Paleoproterozoic layered ultramafic–mafic complex (FPC) located in the central part of the Kola Peninsula. The century-long history of the study of FPC, originated in the first decades of the last century.
The ores were found to belong to the low-sulfide type with a sulfide content in the rock of no more than 0.1% and a very fine (less than 0.5 mm) grain size.
PGE zones A, B and C. Each zone is confined to the boundary of a stratigraphic unit (GNZ 1b, GNZ 2 and GZ) and differs from the others in geochemical characteristics.
Most of the rocks from the East Pana massif are metamorphosed in amphibolite facies.
