About GillulyiteHide

03936370017271923561082.jpg
James C. Gilluly
Formula:
Tl2As7.5Sb0.3S13
Colour:
Deep red
Lustre:
Adamantine
Hardness:
2 - 2½
Specific Gravity:
4.02
Crystal System:
Monoclinic
Name:
Named after USGS geologist James C. Gilluly (24 June 1896, Seattle, Washington, USA - 29 December 1980) for his contributions to the understanding of the fundamental geology of the Mercur, Ophir, and Stockton mining districts of Utah. [http://www.nasonline.org/publications/biographical-memoirs/memoir-pdfs/gilluly-james.pdf]
OD structure; several possible polytypes have been proposed (Makovicky & Balić-Žunić, 1999).

Homeotypic with ambrinoite and gerstleyite.

Also compare jankovićite, rebulite, gillulyite, pierrotite; and gungerite.

Gillulyite is very light sensitive and to preserve the true color and luster must be stored in a dark container (http://www.mindat.org/forum.php?file,7,file=58644).
