About SpanoiteHide

08102650017718611195941.jpg
Dr. Tyler L. Spano
Formula:
Tl2[(UO2)2(V2O8)]
Crystal System:
Monoclinic
Name:
Named for Dr. Tyler L. Spano (b. 1986), mineralogist and uranium chemist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, USA. Among her many contributions to uranium mineralogy and spectroscopy, she has published extensively on carnotite-group minerals.
Closely related to the carnotite group, but is anhydrous.

See also: thallium-bearing carnotite.

Note: material from the Margaritas Mine in Mexico has been examined by EPMA and does not correspond to spanoite. At present (August, 2026), the only locality confirmed to have spanoite is the type locality (Atlanta Mine).
